The Origin

A View Worth
Naming

The label was designed standing in the vineyard. At the corner of Highways 37 and 121 in southern Sonoma County, the land opens to something rare: sixty acres of estate Chardonnay and Pinot Noir with an unobstructed sightline across the north shore of San Francisco Bay toward Mount Tamalpais.

On a clear morning you can pick out the towers of the Golden Gate. You can watch the tide shift. You can feel the marine air moving up the bay, holding temperatures down through the growing season, slowing ripening, preserving acidity, building the kind of complexity that turns up in the glass.

The view is not incidental. It explains the wine. Viewpoint is what that specific place produces, made by a family that has farmed this corner of Sonoma County for five generations.

Aromas of green apple, pear, and citrus with hints of tropical fruit. On the palate, this wine shows balanced acidity and creamy texture, with flavors of ripe stone fruit, vanilla, and a touch of oak. The finish is long and elegant with lingering fruit and toasted nuts. Grapes were hand-picked at night to preserve freshness and whole-cluster pressed using the Champagne method. 75% fermented in stainless steel for cold fermentation; 25% aged in French Oak with full malolactic fermentation.

Five Generations, One Estate

From cowboys, racehorses, and the largest rodeo in Northern California to estate vineyards and world-class wine. Tom Larson's great grandparents bought this land in 1899. Tom planted the first Chardonnay vines in 1978. First crush was 1987. The same family. The same land. Now in its fifth generation.

The Family

Fifth Generation,
Carneros Sonoma

As a boy growing up in Berkeley, Tom Larson would visit his grandmother at the family's 101-acre ranch on the bend of Sonoma Creek, listening to stories about real-life cowboys and seeing black and white photos of rodeos, racehorses, and steamboats. He came back to plant grapes in 1978. First crush was 1987. Today Larson Family Winery produces 5,000 to 10,000 cases a year from over 150 acres of vineyards, 100 of which are on the family property.

The winery has always been unpretentious. Many visitors say it reminds them of the old Sonoma. That is not an accident. Viewpoint is an extension of that same philosophy: honest farming, estate fruit, wine you actually open.
